Alesha Dixon has candidly opened up on why she thinks it’s important to make more time ourselves amid the lockdown.

Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha, 42, told her 1.1million Instagram followers at the beginning of January that she was using 2021 as the “year for wellness”.

Writing next to a photo of the word ‘wellness’ written in the sand, she told her fans: “For me this IS the year for Wellness, we need to dig deep and have a Positive mindset more than ever! 2021 let’s really go!!!!”

And, as she chatted exclusively with OK! online as an ambassador for the Sky Ocean Rescue and WWF Ocean Hero Campaign, Alesha opened up on her reasons behind the post.

She explained: “I think it’s a bit of selfceare I’m trying to achieve. I think it’s so easy for a parent to always – which is natural to do – put your children first.

“Your day revolves around you children’s needs and keeping your house today and cooking, work emails, always servicing other people.

“I think it’s very important to have a bit of selfceare, a bit of mindfulness, a bit of time for yourself, even if it’s five minutes.”

Alesha, who recently opened up on her challenges with homeschooling, added: “I remember Oprah Winfrey saying once: ‘If you can’t even find five minutes in your day for yourself then you’re doing yourself a disservice‘ because if your healthy, if your mind is right, if you’re physically well, you will then be able to take care of other people in a better way.

“You’ll be in a better frame of mind, you’ll deal with frustrations and issues with a bit more ease because your mind is right. And so wellness for me it is mind, body and should. It sounds cliche, but it’s all three of those things being serviced. So if me being selfish… I shouldn’t really say selfish.

“If it’s me taking some time out of my day to make sure I exercise or make a vegetable juice or a salad or a smoothie and just do one thing in my day that makes me feel like I’m being kind to myself I feel like I’m a better mum, I feel like I’m a better partner and I feel like I run my business better.

“It’s all connected because everything we do is an extension of who we are so it’s important to nourish it and feed it so, hence the reason for that post.”

Alesha is mum to two daughter Azura, seven, and Anaya, one, who she shares with her husband Azuka Ononye.
