The former ‘Hung’ star claims that while the entertainment industry canceled her for dating ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ host, Harrison Ford was the only one who remained supportive of her.
AceShowbiz –Anne Heche‘s romance with Ellen DeGeneres has cost the former her career. When reflecting on their past relationship, the former “Hung” star claimed that she’s once “blacklisted” by Hollywood for dating the comedienne.
The 52-year-old, who dated the TV host from 1997 to 2000, made the revelation in a new interview with Page Six. “This wasn’t a long-term love affair,” she said. “This was a moment in my life when I was given the glory of being able to stand up for what I believe in and have since I was a kid.”
Describing herself as the “patient zero in cancel culture,” Anne revealed that she lost a big project because of the same-sex partnership. “I didn’t do a studio picture for ten years,” she disclosed. “I was fired from a $10 million picture deal and did not see the light of day in a studio picture.”
Anne also recalled that she felt like losing her role in rom-com “Six Days, Seven Nights” after going public with Ellen. Luckily, her co-star Harrison Ford remained supportive of her. “He said, ‘Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn who you’re sleeping with. We have a romantic comedy to make. Let’s make it the best one that’s ever happened,’ ” she recounted.
“That is why Harrison Ford is my hero,” the Daytime Emmy Award winner went on gushing. “To stand behind me at such a time when the force of what I was standing up for could have been toppled.”
Despite the difficult period, “The Brave” alum said she’s proud of her role in changing societal norms. “Those repercussions that happened, are to me what has created a part of the change. I’m a part of it. It is a badge of honor,” she pointed out.
After calling it quits with Ellen, Anne got married to Coleman Laffoon. However, the pair got divorced in 2009. As for “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” host, she’s now happily married to Portia de Rossi.
