Dan Walker’s partner Nadiya Bychkova, 32, has addressed sharing a hug with the BBC Breakfast presenter after the pair were eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing 2022. The Ukrainian-born beauty gushed over the 44-year-old, who she branded a “gentleman”.

The BBC pro explained that she had comforted Dan as he had been upset over the death of his footballer pal Gary Speed.

It comes after the dancing duo were voted out of the competition, and Nadiya was pictured crying in a taxi.

The performer insisted that the pair have become good friends during their time in the show.

Speaking in a new interview, Nadiya explained: “It was a very difficult day for Dan. It was a full-on week in general, a lot of work, and it had made him emotional.

“He had filmed an interview and was watching that video.

“We became really good friends during these 11 or 12 weeks and it was a tough day for him.”

She added to The Sun: “I was glad I was there for him.”

Nadiya said she was emotional following their exit but added that they were “happy tears”.

Nadiya also said she would continue to be friends with Dan “for life”.

“Dan is probably one of the kindest people on this planet. He is very caring and always looking after other people. He is selfless and a gentleman,” she said.

It comes after Dan was forced to hit back at false claims over the Strictly curse after sharing a close bond with Nadiya.

He was upset on the 10-year anniversary of his pal Gary’s death, saying: “I just needed to give somebody a hug.

“I needed to release emotionally from everything I’d been bottling up in the week.”

The Strictly pro also dismissed the curse rumours and admitted she doesn’t pay attention.

She explained: “I went to Daniel’s house quite a few times and Sarah [Dan’s wife] is a great cook and such a beautiful and lovely lady who is so proud of him. We got on really well.

“Dan met my mum and my daughter and he met my partner on Facetime but never in person.

“I don’t pay much attention to the curse, but people love to talk about it.”

Nadiya, who joined Strictly in 2017, said the curse rumours have been around since she started on the show five years ago.

Meanwhile, Rhys Stephenson and his dance partner Nancy Xu were the latest couple to be voted off the show last night.

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs Saturday on BBC One at 6.20pm.
