Katie Piper has revealed recovery from recent tarsorrhaphy surgery isn’t going as well as she hoped, in an update to fans on Instagram this week. The Loose women star sustained multple injuries and blindness in eye one after she was attacked with acid in 2008.
She has since undergone more than 400 surgeries in a bid to reconstruct her face. Following her most recent procedure, Katie , 40, said she had more problems with her her left eye, as she headed back from a clinic.
On her Instagram Story, she added: “When don’t I? I’ve got a defect and an infection that is becoming really hard to treat.” Panning the camera onto her husband, she added: “I have to give a shout out to my lovely husband, he’s always there for me, always driving.
“He’s spent a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms, eye clinic waiting rooms, wards, and he sits in a lot of car parks waiting for me.” Katie underwent a planned tarsorrhaphy operation on her left eye and also had scar tissue operated on on her right eye, leaving her slightly swollen.
Taking to her Instagram after the procedure last month, the activist shared a lengthy post telling fans the procedures had been “mentally hard”. She added: “In my case I am trying to preserve the eye, avoid perforation and losing my eye completely.”

Katie went on to say: “Also, if this helps anyone else…. yes I do sometimes find it hard. I’m ok with looking different to everyone else but operations can sometimes take me back to memories of how this all started and that’s hard mentally.” The mother-of-two added she felt “incredibly lucky” tp have an “intelligent, interesting and kind” following, but at times had received some trolling.
“I know most of you will find this update useful and probably have had your own similar journeys of medical or mental health recoveries, but for the few that will send msgs or leave negative comments (I’ve heard them all before, nothing new) then this explanation/education is for you,” she added.
