Dame Mary Berry has shared a health update after the national treasure broke her hip two years ago.

The 88-year-old has credited croquet for giving her a new lease of life as she recovered from her broken hip.

In a new interview, she told the Mirror: “Croquet is something for when you’re older.

“My husband was a great sportsman in his time and he can no longer play golf so we play croquet.

“It takes you out of yourself, you meet different people and I just love it. We play in all weather, we just dress for it.”

The former Great British Bake Off star said she enjoys both the social aspect of croquet and for the exercise, as she continues to recover.

Mary had to spend ten days in hospital after the accident, but it appears she’s in better shape now.

The television personality said she had gone out to pick the last of the sweet peas in her backyard, when she tripped over some bricks and fell on the ground quite hard.

Her husband Paul was watching cricket inside the house at the time while her daughter Annabel was playing in a tennis tournament.

Thankfully, she had her mobile at the time, and although Paul didn’t realise his phone was ringing, her son-in-law Dan did.

Dan insisted on calling for an ambulance and she was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading for treatment.

She had to endure physiotherapy sessions in aid of her recovery process at the time.

Despite being back to good health, the TV chef has insisted she won’t be vying for the Glitterball trophy on Strictly anytime soon.

The BBC star told the publication: “I have not got Angela Rippon’s legs,” in reference to the 79-year-old presenter taking part on this year’s series with partner Kai Widdrington.

“There is absolutely no chance I’ll do Strictly. I’m not tempted in any way, ever,” she expressed.

Mary is all set to star in her new BBC show Mary Makes It Easy alongside Mel Giedroyc, where she shows off some campfire recipes including mushroom soup, a vegetable ragu and a chicken tartiflette.

Mary Makes It Easy will air on Thursday at 7:30pm on BBC Two
