Princess Kate praised by fans as she reassures George and Charlotte with gesture

It's been an emotional day for the royal family as Princess of Wales Kate Middleton attended the funeral of the Queen alongside her husband Prince William and their children Prince George and Princess Charlotte.

Princess Charlotte, seven, was seen crying outside Westminster Abbey and Prince George, nine, wiped away his tears after saying goodbye to their great-grandmother on September 19.

Mother-of-three Kate was praised when she was seen placing a gentle hand on her son and daughter's shoulders as they entered the historic London church for the state funeral.

Kate, 40, held hands with Charlotte as they headed into Westminster Abbey, which also hosted the Queen's wedding and coronation.

George also walked close to his mum and sister as they walked inside the Abbey and took their seats for the service.

Many praised Kate for the sweet and touching gesture, with viewers writing that it left them in "tears" as they watched the funeral this morning.

One tweeted: "Seeing Prince George and Princess Charlotte at the Queen's funeral made me cry.

"Such beautiful behaved children a credit to William and Kate."

Another said: "Kate, you must be incredibly proud & so you should be.

"I’m a mum of 2 boys, sitting here in tears and just so so proud of all those that are playing their part for our Queen."

Charlotte and George – who were the youngest mourners who attended the funeral today – showed maturity as they dressed respectfully in dark attire and stood and sang hymns with their parents.

It is believed that Prince William, 40, and Kate believed it was important they attended their great-grandmother's funeral.

When the four of them arrived at their seats, George was seen wiping his tears away from his face.

His emotional display left many fans reaching for the tissues, as one person watching the funeral tweeted: "Prince George is crying."

Another posted on Twitter: "Seeing Prince George and Princess Charlotte so heartbroken has got the tears flowing."

"Prince George and Princess Charlotte are incredible. I started crying the moment the choir started singing. Hugely impressed by the royals today," a third shared.
