Will Smith issues apology to Chris Rock
Sean Penn has hit out over Will Smith’s infamous attack on Chris Rock, as he questioned why he was jailed for hitting someone, but the Bad Boys actor wasn’t.
In 1987, Sean, 63, served 33 days of a 60-day sentence in a county jail for hitting an extra on a movie set and reckless driving, according to the Los Angeles Times.
At the Academy Awards in March 2022, Will got on stage to hit comedian Chris, who was presenting an Oscar that evening, after he made a joke about his wife Jada’s shaved hair following her alopecia diagnosis.
In a new interview with Variety, Sean shared his many thoughts about the incident.
He said: “I don’t know Will Smith. I met him once. He seemed very nice when I met him. He was so f***ing good in King Richard.

“So why the f*** did you just spit on yourself and everybody else with this stupid f***ing thing? Why did I go to f***ing jail for what you just did? And you’re still sitting there?
“Why are you guys standing and applauding his worst moment as a person?”
The Mystic River actor spoke about the incident as he slammed the Oscars for reportedly not allowing Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to share a message during the ceremony like other shows did.
Sean believes producers may have thought, ‘Oh he’s not light-hearted enough’. Well, guess what you got instead? Will Smith!”
He went on to say the incident “would never have happened” if the President was there.

Will has since referred to the altercation as “a mistake” and apologised for his actions.
In a statement, he added the joke about Jada’s medical condition “was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally”.
He went on to say he was “out of line” and apologised to Chris, the academy and the King Richard family.
“I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”
Will also resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which banned him from attending its events for 10 years.
Chris, who declined to press charges against the actor, said the slap “still hurt” a year on in his Netflix special Selective Outrage.
He said to the camera: “Everybody knows, yes it happened, I got slapped a year ago – I got smacked by this motherf***er.
“And people are like, ‘Did it hurt?’ It still hurts. I’ve got Summertime [Will’s song] ringing in my ears.”
Jada previously spoke out about her condition in 2018 on her show Red Table Talk. Alopecia is a general term for hair loss, although there are nine different types of the condition.
The two most common types are androgenetic alopecia and alopecia areata, which Jada is believed to have.
The autoimmune condition causes hair to fall out, usually in patches on the scalp or other places on the body that grow hair, such as the beard, eyebrows or eyelashes.
