Sophia Lauren, 87, has spoken out about her famous side eye she gave to Jayne Mansfield. Sophia skyrocketed to fame in 1955 and was one of the main faces of the Golden Age of Hollywood.

In my face you can see fear.

The famous actress has had this infamous side eye follow her throughout her career.

In the picture, Jayne can be seen smiling to the camera, whereas Sophia is judgmentally staring at Sophia’s chest.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2014 Sophia revealed the truth behind the picture.

She explained that Paramount had organised a night for the actress, and Jayne was the last to arrive at the event.

When Jayne arrived she went straight to Sophia’s table as she knew that was where the cameras were.

Sophia said: “Where are my eyes?

“I’m staring at her nipples because I am afraid they are about to come onto my plate.

She added: “In my face you can see fear.

“I’m so frightened that everything in her dress is going to blow- BOOM! – and spill all over the table.”

The reason, very understandable, did not stop the picture following Sophia in her life, something the actress did not want.

Sophia explained that when she is given this photo to sign, she has always refused as she does not want to be associated with it.

She added she does not want anything to do with it “out of respect for Jayne Mansfield because she’s not with us anymore”.

Jayne very sadly passed away at the age of 34 in 1967, after she was involved in a car accident in Eastern New Orleans.

She was a major sex symbol in the 1950s and 60s, being one of the first PlayboyPlaymates and was known for her wardrobe malfunctions.

Jayne took her name from her first marriage with public relations professional Paul Mansfield, however this was not her only marriage.

The star was married and divorced three times, and had five children.

Sophia, likewise, is an American actress with a lot of success under her belt.

The veteran actress has over 90 film credits to her name, and was one of the best known sex symbols of her time.

Her performance in the movie Two Women, released in 1961 earned her an Academy Award for Best Actress.

This made her the first actress to win an Oscar for a foreign language performance.

In 1991, she received the Academy Honorary Award for her lifetime achievements.
