Sir Tom Jones shared an insight into his relationship with Melinda Trenchard, known as “Lady Linda” before her death in 2016. The Voice UK judge revealed his well-documented dalliances with other women were never discussed with his wife.

In his autobiography Over The Top and Back, the 80-year-old crooner revealed how he fell for Linda when they were just 12 years old.

The couple was devoted to one another, despite Tom’s extramarital affairs with other women, which he shed light on in the book.

During an appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2016, the It’s Not Unusual hitmaker spoke about the book and addressed the couple’s marriage.

“[The affairs were] never discussed, I was never put on the spot,” Tom commented.

“Linda is a wonderful person and she would never put me on the spot.”

He added: “She loves being married to me and I love being married to her.”

He admitted to having dalliances with other women whilst on tour, when his wife stayed at home in their Las Vegas and Los Angeles residencies.

Speaking about the matter, Tom added: “You can’t worry about it because if you do, you’ll be worrying all the time because they’ll twist it anyway. I’m chilled about most things.”

The couple were married for close to six decades until Linda sadly died in 2016, after a battle with lung cancer.

The pair tied the knot in 1957 and welcomed their son Mark Woodward the same year.

The veteran crooner previously opened up about his late wife’s plea to return to the UK, after the couple moved to the United States.

The Delilah hitmaker resided in Los Angeles for over two decades with his family.

Tom admitted that during his wife’s final years she had become “homesick” and wanted them to return to the UK.

“Linda wanted to come back to Britain, she was always homesick,” Tom explained.

“Then she got sick and we couldn’t do it. She told me to go back the last week she was alive.

“She told me to get a flat in London. She would have loved to have come back but we left it too late,” he added to the Sunday Mirror in 2018.

Tom’s wife died at the age of 75, just under a year before their 60th wedding anniversary.

The Welsh-born singer did follow his wife’s request to return to Britain and now lives in a flat in London.

The legendary singer is a regular fixture on ITV’s The Voice where Tom is a coach to hopeful singers hoping to win the competition.

The Voice UK airs tonight on ITV at 8.30pm.
