Tomb Raider actor Simon Yam stabbed in stomach as attacker storms stage

Simon Yam had to be rushed to hospital after being stabbed in the stomach by a stage invader.

The actor, who starred in Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, is now recovering after a crazed man attacked him on stage as he spoke at a promotional event in China.

A video quickly circulated on the Chinese social networking site Weibo of Yam speaking at the opening of a shop in Zhongshan, when a man suddenly walks up the stairs of the stage towards him and jabs the 65-year-old actor in the stomach with a knife.

In another video, Yam is seen clutching his bleeding stomach asking to be taken to hospital.

A representative has since told the media that Yam is stable and the wound has been cleaned.

His manager Lester Mo-Gee also confirmed that the injuries were not life-threatening.

"A preliminary investigation showed his injuries were not critical but the doctors are still deciding whether to operate," he told the South China Morning Post.

Yam has been starring in films since the mid-70s but is best known for his role in 1992's Full Contact and 2003's Tomb Raider: The Cradle Of Life, where he appeared alongside Angelina Jolie .
