London label Aries has returned with a new collaboration with Lee Jeans, reinterpreting the brand’s classic workwear and Americana aesthetic through a new lens.
The starting point for the collaboration is the fascination with the American West that existed in Italy throughout the 1970s and ’80s. Images of America were filtered through Italian directors, and were often presented through made-in-Italy Western films, that were shot in the poor southern Italian regions. These areas were unpopular as tourist destinations for both international and domestic travellers, therefore presenting a new vision of Italy through these pastiche films.
Referencing the influence, Aries has used denim weave patterns inspired by classical and neoclassical sculptures alongside traditional Italian handweaves. Other stand-outs include a matching floral 191-1 jacket and carpenter jeans, as well as Workwear-striped jacket, trousers and overalls complete with a custom graphic. A selection of T-shirts round out the capsule, all of which feature a reworking of Aries’ Temple graphic, combined with Lee branding.
Take a look through the collection in the gallery above. The images have been captured by cult art photographer Roberto Timperi to create a small book titled VUOI that will be available for free with purchases from Lee, Aries and select stockists. The collection will release on May 5.
