TV icon Alison Hammond become emotional when she suddenly realised it was three years since her mother’s death on This Morning.

The former Big Brother star’s mum Maria died in January 2020 following a battle with liver and lung cancer, with the funeral ‘celebrating her amazing life’ taking place the month later.

The 47-year-old was hosting the ITV daytime series on Friday with Dermot O’Leary when she realised it was the anniversary of her parent’s death.

The duo had been speaking to callers who had superstitions that were holding them back with therapists Nik and Eva Speakman.

A viewer had asked for advice on how to cope with the 13th, as they had associated the date with past trauma.

While discussing mechanisms to overcome the fear, Alison said: ‘I’ve just realised it’s the 13th of January, today isn’t it?

‘This is the date my mum passed away in bed 13. And we buried her on February 13. It’s just literally come to me.’

She continued: ‘And we did it on the 13th because I thought, “Why not?”. So I don’t associate [the 13th] with anything bad.

‘And it was a lovely funeral. It’s literally just come to me. Sorry,’ the national treasure said, while Dermot tenderly touched her arm.

Last year, on the two-year anniversary of her mother’s death Alison shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

Sharing a snap of her mum in her younger days, wearing a patterned purple dress, Alison shared how the pain is still very much with her.

She wrote: ‘Mummy Two years today you left me and the pain has never left my heart . I love and Miss you sooo much . I hear and feel you all the time . My Angel Maria ❤️❤️❤️.’

Her comments section was quickly flooded with love and sympathetic wishes from fans and famous friends, with Holly Willoughby commenting: ‘Ah Alison… sending huge love to you ❤️.’

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
