GTA 6 fans have convinced themselves the first trailer is this October

Rockstar fandom has gone into full-on conspiracy mode, with many clinging to the idea that the GTA 6 trailer is imminent, despite zero evidence.

Despite almost all game news leaking out before any kind of official announcement, not even hacking into Rockstar’s company servers has revealed anything but the most basic facts about GTA 6.

We know that it’s almost certainly set in Vice City (GTA’s version of Miami), and that the protagonists are a male and female duo fashioned after Bonnie and Clyde, and that’s it. Various rumours suggest a release date of 2024 or 2025 but no one seems to have any clue when the first trailer will appear.

And yet fans are convinced that October 2023 is when Rockstar Games is going to drop its bombshell, in part because of the image above.

It’s taken from a completely innocuous tweet about a new in-game T-shirt, created to commemorate the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.

The two characters are standing in front of the Vinewood sign – GTA’s version of the Hollywood sign in Los Angeles – and because of the angle it looks like the Roman numeral VI (all GTA games since GTA 3 have used Roman numerals in their titles).

And… that’s it. That’s as good as the evidence has got so far and yet to say it’s a bit of a stretch is a major understatement.

The problem is though, that Rockstar do sometimes indulge in peculiarly obscure references, in their games and marketing, so there’s still a 1% chance the above could be purposeful.

There’s also the fact that, despite the uncertainty, an initial trailer this year is a possibility. If the game is aiming for a 2024 or 2025 release then this is around about the time you’d expect Rockstar to start promoting it – just as they did with Red Dead Redemption 2.

That doesn’t mean an October reveal is likely but it does mean it’s possible and for some fans that’s at least something.
