Leaked screenshots and footage have given away the last two Mortal Kombat 1 characters and how the game runs on Switch.
Just like with Starfield, Dead Island 2, Resident Evil 4, and a bunch of other games, someone has managed to get their copy of Mortal Kombat 1 early. So, expect some big spoilers to drop in the coming days.
As a reminder, Mortal Kombat 1 doesn’t launch until September 14 for customers who bought the Kollector or Premium edition. Everyone else must wait until September 19.
Unsurprisingly, the individual in question has posted a screenshot of the game’s full roster, giving away the identities of the last few playable characters and confirming Mortal Kombat 1 starts off with at least 23 characters.
Officially, 21 fighters were already announced via trailers so that only leaves two more.
The screenshot was originally shared via Reddit but has since been deleted. Unsurprisingly, someone reuploaded it to Imgur so, if you don’t care about spoilers, you are free to check it there.
Before we dive into spoiler territory, we will note that Shang Tsung and Havik’s icons have padlocks over them. The former is DLC (either via pre-order bonus or as a separate purchase) but Havik can be presumed to be an in-game unlockable, no doubt by beating the story mode.
There’s also a 24th blank slot with just a silhouette. Although that’s probably just the standard way of picking a random character, rather than a reference to a hidden character or planned DLC characters like Homelander and Omni-Man.
If you don’t wish to know the identities of the two unannounced fighters, you’ll want to click away now…
The two fighters appear to be Nitara, a vampire lady introduced in 2002’s Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, and Reiko from 1997’s Mortal Kombat 4.
Their names aren’t present in the screenshot, but their new designs do strongly resemble their previous appearances. Plus, both characters were mentioned in a previous roster leak, which has so far proven accurate.
The one behind the leaked screenshot, Reddit user rearisen, also posted one for the kameo fighters, but it doesn’t reveal anyone new since all 15 of them have been officially announced by NetherRealm.
According to rearisen, they received a Nintendo Switch copy of the game early and thus uploaded some footage from the story mode as well. Not to spoil anything (they only show the first two minutes of the story mode), but to highlight its performance.
Although it’s recorded on a phone, there is obvious lag and screen tearing in places, which rearisen says is ‘at its worst in the beginning and ending of cut scenes and before story fights.’
Mortal Kombat 1 launches for Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on September 14 in early access and then September 19 for everyone else.
