Rockstar may already have started work on the sequel to Red Dead Redemption 2 but it’ll be out even later than GTA 6.
Although most predictions hold that GTA 6 will be released in the next couple of years, possibly with a reveal this autumn, nobody has ever said anything about Red Dead Redemption 3.
The fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 sold 55 million copies essentially guarantees another sequel but considering GTA 6 has only vaguely been acknowledged by Rockstar Games it’s no surprise to find they’ve never said anything at all about what comes after it.
However, one insider is bold enough to claim that ‘Red Dead Redemption 3 is officially in the works.’ Although they’ve offered no proof to substantiate that claim.
Leaker MyTimeToShineHello primarily shares rumours from the movie and TV world, where he as a good track record of accuracy with superhero content, but they rarely comment on video games.
How it is they know anything about the inner workings of the secretive Rockstar is not explained but they’ve also offered a similarly succinct rumour about Hogwarts Legacy 2, claiming simply that ‘Sources confirmed that a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is in the works.’
Until they can prove their video game leaks are as reliable as their movie ones this should be taken with an ocean full of salt but, then again, both sequels are clearly going to happen at some point.
There has been fan speculation that Red Dead Redemption 3 will be a prequel, showing the break-up of the Van Der Linde Gang that occurred just before the start of the second game; just as that game lead into the events of the first.
Whether that’s true or not, going back in time is likely, as both games take place right at the end of the Wild West era and anything that happened after would start to make typical cowboy shenanigans difficult – although that may well attract Rockstar to the period, rather than putting them off.
