Shopper shows how to unlock a trolley even when you don’t have £1 or a token

When a huge supermarket shop beckons, being caught out with a pound coin or trolley token is less than ideal.

You've got a couple of options. You can either cram as much stuff as you can into your basket, or you can lurk, by the trolleys, trying to build up the courage to ask a stranger for a quid.

But now thanks to one savvy shopper there is a third option which will release a trolley – allowing you to run your errands.

Sharing their tip on the Latest Deals, Extreme Couponing & Bargains Facebook group , they wrote:

"If you don't have a pound coin or a trolley coin put 2 20s together & boom it will work."

But, as with so many things in life, there is a (quite literal) catch.

While some group members were keen to give it a go, others explained that they'd already tried – and the two coins had a habit of getting stuck.

"I was embarrassed in Aldi as I did this they got stuck and jammed and a manager had to come out to fix it, very very embarrassing "

While another said: "Tried this and it works but I couldn't get my 20ps back [it] jammed the trolley."

Uh oh, no one wants to draw to this to the attention of the manager.

Luckily, there were plenty of other suggestions as to what you could use instead.

"The key off corned beef tins work, used them for months now." Apparently house keys also work a treat too, although at this point, buying a token seems like the most straightforward option.
