A British expat has issued a warning to tourists about the things they should never do in Australia if they don’t want to be ‘judged’ or ‘yelled at’.
Jordana Grace, who is now based on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, listed three things newbies should never do if they don’t want to annoy Aussies.
The list included never complaining about the heat, going to Starbucks or swimming outside the flags.
The radio host refers to herself as That British Gal on her social media and often shares the culture shocks she’s experienced since moving from the UK to Australia.

Jordana listed three things newbies should never do if they don’t want to annoy Aussies. The surprising list included never complaining about the heat, never going to Starbucks and never swimming outside the flags
‘Here are three things you shouldn’t do when you come to Australia,’ Jordana said.
Her number one no-go was complaining about how hot it is.
‘We all know Australia’s hot. But if you’re a tourist and all you’ve done is come here and complain about the heat it’s not going to go down well,’ she said.
‘Just ignore the boob sweat, smile and carry on.’
The comedian jokingly recommended hanging out in the freezer aisle at supermarkets if you’re feeling really hot.
Her second tip is to never ask where the nearest Starbucks is.
‘Australia invented the beloved flat white, don’t disrespect the great coffee culture here by basically asking for sugar dirt water,’ she said.
If you don’t knew where the best café is, she advised tourists to ask an Australian person where they get their favourite coffee from and you’re bound to find a good one.
She advised never asking where the nearest Starbucks is and go to an Australian café instead. Her final piece of advice was to never swim outside the flags, especially if you don’t want to be ‘yelled at’ by lifeguards over a tannoy
Her final piece of advice was to never swim outside the flags, especially if you don’t want to be ‘yelled at’ by lifeguards over a tannoy.
‘The sea in Australia is a beautiful beast, it’s gorgeous but the people that get into the most trouble are tourists,’ she said.
‘The lifeguards aren’t just there to be pretty, they are there to help you swim safely.’
Hundreds of people weighed in on her tips, many Aussies agreed with the advice.
‘Only the locals are allowed to say “it’s too bloody hot” one man said.
Three things tourists should never do in Australia:
1. Never complain about the heat
2. Never ask where the nearest Starbucks is, go to an Australian café instead
3. Never swim outside the flags at the beach
‘Yes, swim between the damn flags,’ another agreed.
However, some locals took issue with some of the tips.
‘I was born and live in Australia and all I do is complain and complain and complain about the heat. I just hate it,’ one woman said.
Several people contested Jordana’s statement that the flat white was invented in Australia.
‘I believe the flat white was actually invented in New Zealand,’ one woman said.
