Fergie and Andrew married in 1986 and welcomed Princess Beatrice in 1988 and later another daughter Eugenie in 1990. Princess Eugenie married Jack Brookbank in 2018 and welcomed baby August in February 2021. Her older sister Beatrice got married in a COVID-secure wedding in 2020 to Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi.

Earlier this year, Princess Beatrice announced she is expecting her first child, much to her mother’s delight at becoming a grandmother again.

Fergie appeared on Lorraine with Christine Lampard to promote her new book ‘Her Heart For a Compass’ and talked about becoming a first-time grandmother.

Fergie said: “I’ve had sisters, I’ve got daughters with very cute Barbie dolls, and in fact, my children weren’t allowed to make them, I had to do it because I would love making all the equipment.

“But now I’m into trains, trucks and tractors and all that stuff which I’m going to learn and I really find it fantastic that August is really a little chap!”

As well as being a proud grandmother and looking forward to becoming one again when Princess Beatrice gives birth to a new royal baby in the autumn, Fergie also gushed about her former husband.

She continued: “Prince Andrew is just such a good man and he’s a really good father.

“We did co-parent very well hence the reason why our girls are very solid, and their feet are on the ground.

“But now as a grandfather oh my goodness you know he’s really good he can go for hours talking about football and all those sorts of things, but it’s a joy to see him really shine as a grandfather.

“Family unity: communicate, compromise, compassion are the three c’s that I think are essential.”

Fergie also appeared on the One Show yesterday with Alex Jones and Gethin Jones.

She spoke about how proud she was of her two daughters, saying: “Eugenie is a great mum.

“Everyone says ‘Oh it’s so exciting – your grandson’, I said no I’m so proud of my daughter!

“She’s a great mother and Beatrice is about to have a baby soon as well.”

The Duchess of York has had a complicated history as a member of the Royal Family, but one thing she’s proud of is her parenting skills.

She told People magazine: “I’m self-deprecating and British.

“But one thing is I’m a really good mum.

“And I’m a good mum because, in growing up, when the girls used to say, ‘Why can’t we do that?’.

“I would say, ‘Well, I’ve already made those mistakes.

“The world’s press has written about my mistakes, so you don’t need to make them now.

“So I’ve gone ahead of you to clear the way so that you can dream and grow and be who you are.”

Beatrice and Eugenie have often spoken highly about their mum, praising her amazing parenting skills.

On Sarah’s 61st birthday, Eugenie wrote on Instagram: “Happy Birthday to my dear mumsy…

“There were too many pictures to choose from that show how completely unique you are.”
