Marks & Spencer announces six huge changes arriving in every store next week

Earlier this week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson confirmed that there would be no delays to the current lockdown roadmap, which is allowing M&S to open its non-essential stores that have been closed for over four months. The retailer outlined the plans in an important message to its customers, alongside confirmation of its intention to re-open all clothing and home spaces across its stores.

The Manchester Evening News explained the changes customers can expect when M&S welcomes them back into all of its shops next week.

Bra fit: Shoppers can have a contact-free bra fit at any of the 250 stores which sell lingerie or a virtual video appointment with an M&S expert.

Click & Collect: Customers who order by 8pm will be able to select free next day pick up via Click & Collect at over 800 stores. M&S is also trialling Express Collection and Digital Check-In at around 20 stores to make the collection of orders even simpler for shoppers.

M&S Cafés: Almost 100 M&S Cafés will be open for takeaway, 14 of which will also have a ‘dine-out’ option in dedicated outdoor seating areas.

Video Powered Retail: M&S will be connecting customers via video appointment with specialist colleagues in-store at its White City branch, one of its five digital trial stores, to help customers shopping from home and with purchases before visiting stores.

More ways to pay: M&S is rebranding its Mobile Pay Go digital shopping option and uniting all of its digital store under Scan and Shop, making it easier for customers to make purchases using their mobile phone or an in-store handheld device, so that they can pay faster and avoid queues.

This follows M&S seeing a 200% increase in downloads of its app and over 1m transactions via its Mobile Pay Go option after being rolled out from a small trial to all food halls in 2020.

New ‘Bring On’ Campaign: Close to two thirds of M&S customers are hoping to dress in smarter and more stylish clothes than they have worn during the UK’s multiple lockdowns, which the ‘Bring On’ campaign is emphasising by putting a focus on the products customers are searching for now.

Following an increasing demand for social event outfits and summer clothing, customers can expect to see this type of clothing at the forefront of stores. Last week, M&S saw huge numbers of searches for sandals and sunglasses with its “new in womenswear” page becoming the most visited on M&S.com. The ‘Bring On’ campaign will utilise this information to put a spotlight on the products customers are wanting most post-lockdown.
