Judges liken TOBACCO ice cream to licking an ashtray on MasterChef: The Professionals – and viewers are equally baffled

A judge on last nights MasterChef: The Professionals described a contestants tobacco ice cream dish like ‘licking an ashtray’.
Yasmin, from London, who is head chef at a restaurant in Acton, made a tarte tatin for the first quarter-final episode last night and paired it with tobacco flavoured ice cream.
The show, which aired last night on BBC 2, follows professional chefs as they cook for food critics, and fight it out to win the title of MasterChef: The Professionals.
All of the judges were surprised by her choice of ice cream flavour, however,it was guest judge Grace Dent who was really appalled by it, saying: ‘That is licking an ashtray, it is cigarette ashtray level – slightly unpleasant.’
Twitter was also in uproar about her decision, with many questioning why she would put tobacco in a dessert.

Food critics William Sitwell, Grace Dent and Jimi Famurewa were judges on last nights show.
Yaz first presented the judges with a chicken dish for her main course – which they thought was nice but a little too rich. However, when it came to her desert the judges were shocked.
The chef paired a apple tarte tatin with the oddly flavoured ice cream. Before they tasted the dessert Grace admitted: I have never tasted tobacco ice cream before,’ while William said: ‘I assume it works beautifully, my life is in Yaz’s hands. ‘
Yaz said after she presented the dishes to the judges: ‘I think my dishes were just as I wanted them to be. I just hope the enjoy eating it and want to dig in.’

William loved the tarte tatin and said that it was cooked to perfection, however all the judges were unsure about its accompaniment.
‘The tobacco ice cream – this isn’t a playful amount of tobacco, it’s not just a musky taste that may be in an aftershave,’ Grace said, ‘That is licking an ashtray, it is cigarette ashtray level – slightly unpleasant.’
While William agreed: ‘I have no idea why you would put it in there, but it’s in there and it’s a shame.’
Jimi added: ‘Its mars the goodwill that you have developed against the star of the show, which is done beautifully.’

Those on Twitter had a similar reaction, with one tweeting: ‘Why would you put cigarettes in your ice cream Yaz? #mastercheftheprofessionals Just NO!!’
While another said: ‘I don’t want to live in a world with tobacco ice cream.#mastercheftheprofessionals’
One more fan said: ‘No one wants to smoke tobacco ice cream #mastercheftheprofessionals’
While one more tweeted: ‘What on earth has to go through your head to be in the #mastercheftheprofessionals quarterfinal and think “Yes, I reckon making a tobacco ice cream will get me to knockout week”?’
Another joked: ‘*making ice-cream* Needs more Benson and Hedges ash.’

While presenters Michelin-starred Marcus Wareing and chef Monica Galetti were also in agreement about the taste of the ice cream.
Monica said about the tarte tatin: ‘Its delicious – I like how the caramel catches the pastry, but I’m not a fan of the ice cream – I don’t like how it catches you in the back of the throat.
Marcus agreed saying: ‘I don’t like it at all.’
While her mistake cost her a place in the competition – as she was told by the judges that she wouldn’t be going into the next round.
