It’s not unusual for doting mothers to mark their child’s 16th birthday with a memorable gift, but one mum has ensured her son won’t forget the big day by making a hamper complete with condoms and lube.

Janine Adamson, 33, from Southampton, shared the clip of the unusual gift on TikTok, but was met with some criticism, with one person saying they’d ‘run away’ if their mother had done this.

She packed the hamper with products, including wipes and three packets of condoms, as well as two types of lubricant, to mark her son reaching the legal age of consent.

The mother, who goes by the username @jadamson98, said she wanted to make sure her son Bradley was safe if he’s going to have sex, and joked she ‘is too young to be a nanna’.

A mother took to social media to reveal the hamper she made for her son’s 16th birthday – complete with condoms and lube

Janine, who was 17 when she had Bradley, said in the video: ‘Sixteen means wipes, protection, more protection.

‘I’m a young mum, so make sure there’s more protection. Maybe he wants to experience, and that’s ok’, she explained.

The video has been viewed by more than 1.2million people, and the mum’s sex-positive attitude has divided users.

One wrote: ‘I’d literally run away from home’ while another added: ‘I’d die of embarrassment right then and there if my mum handed me this.’

‘I wouldn’t know how to react if my mum gave me this’, wrote a third.

Some, however, totally agreed with the mum’s approach and praised her for encouraging safe sex.

‘Y’all forgetting that some people have good relationships with their parents where you can joke about stuff like this without it being weird’, one supportive viewer said.

‘It might be embarrassing, but it’s definitely better than being a teen parent! Good job!’, wrote a second.

Another added: ‘Can’t blame her for trying to prevent a teen pregnancy or an std… seem like a good mum to me.’

Bradley appeared to find the hamper amusing, as Janine took to TikTok to share another clip of him opening his presents.

He picked up the hamper from a table full of presents and examined it before he realised what was inside.

Bradley first noticed the baby wipes and soon clocked the rest of the gift as he laughed at the condoms.

She captioned the clip: ‘His reaction’ alongside three laughing face emojis as the teen chuckled at the gift.

Appearing a little red-faced and shaking his head at his mother, Bradley said: ‘You got me lube! I’ve got baby wipes, condoms and lube.’

Janine told the MailOnline: ‘I am close enough to have fun with my son and still try and talk about the conversations that are perhaps uncomfortable for other families.

‘But one, I’m too young to be a nanny and two, I want him to know how to be safe, so what better way to do it, by making it fun.’
