DEAR DEIDRE: MY friend told me she could see herself being in a relationship with me but she is massively torn and confused with her feelings.
I am a 25-year-old female. My friend is 26. We met three years ago when we started working together. We quickly became best friends.
She revealed that she has sexual feelings for me a couple of weeks ago.
I am openly lesbian, but my friend is currently in a relationship with a man and has never had a same-sex relationship.
I have strong feelings for her which I have always put off because she is with someone. I honestly believe she is only confused about her feelings because she is scared and struggling with the fact I am a woman and that she might be bisexual or a lesbian.
I would like to have a romantic relationship with her because I believe we could have something very special.
DEIDRE SAYS: She may be struggling with her sexuality. Some people are genuinely bisexual, others simply may go through a phase of feeling attracted to the same sex.
Either way, don’t get drawn in further while she is still with her boyfriend.
Tell her you understand her fears and suggest she find understanding support at Switchboard LGBT+ (switchboard.lgbt, 0300 330 0630).
Take a step back to give her space and she might just step forward.
