Nile Rodger’s rare 1987 Porsche 930 Targa Turbo “Flachbau” is about to hit the auction block at Christie’s — and whomever buys it will get a little bit of Kiss history (that some in the band would probably rather forget).
On Tuesday, “Bevelations” author and actress Bevy Smith interviewed Rodger’s and Chris Stein of Blondie ahead of the auction, and Rodgers revealed that Kiss frontman Gene Simmons once “almost barfed” in the prized car.
“He said he was driving [Simmons] in the car, and he started to get sick from [the car’s] speed, so he pulled over on the Garden State [Parkway in New Jersey] just in time for him to upchuck on the road. Everyone thought it was hysterical,” a source told Page Six.
Rodgers was so tickled by retelling the story that he even told it again on TikTok. He posted a video of the car set to the band’s 1975 track “Rock and Roll All Nite,” and wrote: “[Gene Simmons] almost barfed in my factory porsche slantnose!”
Christie’s live auction for The Nile Rodger’s Collection starts on Thursday and will feature the Porsche — which is expected to sell for up to $200,000 — as well as several of his guitars, studio equipment and other prized possessions he’s collected through the years.
“When I got sober, a little over 26 years ago, I quit the music business … I spiritually decided I wasn’t going to be in the business, but I wanted to be connected to the business, so I started collecting all this stuff,” Rodgers told Page Six last year when he was figuring out a plan of action to part ways with the items.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit his We Are Family Foundation.
