When The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword first released on November 18, 2011, fans felt one moment hit them particularly hard. In Skyward Sword, the Silent Realm gives Link challenges to prove his spiritual growth to the Golden Goddesses Din, Farore, and Nayru. However, the missions strip Link of his weapons and force him to avoid and quell monstrous Guardians that take him out with one strike from their giant weapons. The harsh music and lighting made fans panic in 2011, and again when The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD released.
What is ‘The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword’ Silent Realm?
Around the midpoint of Skyward Sword, Zelda and Impa escape into the distant past at the Lanayru Desert Temple of Time, leaving Link to figure out how to follow. He discovers the Sealed Temple’s Gate of Time, but he must make his Goddess Sword more powerful to activate it.
Link discovers that the three Sacred Flames can improve his Goddess Sword. However, he must prove his spirit to the Golden Goddesses, Din, Farore, and Nayru. This leads Link to Faron Woods, where he encounters Skyward Sword’s Silent Realm for the first time. He drives his Goddess Sword into the ground and his spirit teleports away.
The ethereal region looks the same as Link’s real world. However, everything has a blue, spiritual tint to it. Some fans theorize that the Silent Realm is the same as the Sacred Realm, where the sage Rauru sealed the Triforce before Ocarina of Time.
Link must explore the areas and collect Sacred Tears to fill his Spirit Vessel.
However, despite the initial peaceful appearance of the Skyward Sword’s Silent Realm, the instant Link breaks a protective boundary, all Hell breaks loose.
The ‘Skyward Sword’ Silent Realm features even more terrifying Guardians than ‘Breath of the Wild’
Frantic piano music starts when a Guardian spots Link, and a laser aims at him in Breath of the Wild. In the Skyward Sword Silent Realms, the music jolts from quiet and serene to jarring and heavy with metallic clangs.
The spiritual blue shifts to an alarming red and every Guardian in the Silent Realm converge on Link.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword fans admitted that they certainly panicked during these sequences.
At least in BOTW, players could improve and gather weapons to defeat Guardians. In Skyward Sword, Link loses all his equipment and can only run for his life in the Silent Realm. Collecting a Sacred Tear puts the Guardians back to sleep, but only temporarily.
The stealth missions shook Legend of Zelda fans in 2011. Then the release of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD introduced a whole new generation of fans to the anxiety-inducing missions.
Some fans mastered the section with the re-release on Nintendo Switch
New players found themselves trying to sneak around the Skyward Sword Silent Realm Guardians. However, older fans found the sections easier upon revisiting.
In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD on Nintendo Switch, gaming veterans confidently faced the Silent Realm. They sprinted from the Guardians with no problems at all.
The Legend of Zelda games like Ocarina of Time had some light stealth sections like the Gerudo Fortress or Hyrule Castle.
However, they never felt quite as dangerous as Skyward Sword’s Silent Realm.
