Antiques Roadshow: Elvis Presley autograph valued by expert
Elvis Presley tragically died on August 16, 1977. The Blue Suede Shoes singer was found dead in his home, Graceland, by his fiancee, Ginger Alden. The King of Rock n Roll suffered a cardiac arrest, and died at the scene, aged just 42-years-old. The legendary singer left behind a daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, whom he had with his ex-wife, Priscilla Presley. Priscilla has spent a lot of time since Elvis’ death speaking candidly about how he was as a person, this week explaining how he was a little “shy” about receiving birthday presents.
January 8, 2021, would have been Elvis’ 86th birthday.
To commemorate the star’s passing, Priscilla posted a heartfelt message on her Facebook page, praising the singer.
The 75-year-old wrote of her late ex-husband: “It’s difficult to believe Elvis would be 86 today, January 8th.
“I think back and wonder… if he were here today, how would he celebrate in the year 2021?”

Priscilla then revealed how Elvis would have celebrated his birthday if he were alive.
She wrote: “It’s not really hard as Elvis was somewhat… a creature of habit. I believe he would be celebrating exactly the same way. Having a small amount of his friends, family and his Memphis Mafia all gathered at Graceland.
“I can almost hear his laugh, see him joking around, and know he would be staying up into the early morning hours… ending at the piano singing gospel songs.
“Elvis, lost in the lyrics, as if no one was around. Then as the song comes to an end and with a slight smile, turns to his guest and nods with satisfaction as everyone applauds for more. Those are cherished moments embedded in my mind.”

In order to commemorate the star, Graceland held an official ceremony over three days to remember the King’s mightiest acts and songs.
The official Graceland website explained: “Enjoy a ceremony with Graceland/EPE [Elvis Presley Estate] officials, a birthday cake cutting and a proclamation of Elvis Presley Day by Memphis and Shelby County official.”
The 2021 birthday celebrations are due to take place over three days, from Jan 7-9.
Head Archivist at Graceland, Angie Marchese, teased what was to come, as they told fans on Instagram: “Have you ever wondered what might be inside a drawer or around a corner?”
They continued: “This one-of-a-kind experience will give you a glimpse at items you will not see on tour – and will feature a special photo op inside Graceland Mansion.”
The celebration also held some Elvis tribute artists, who played a number of the King’s hits at the outdoor stage.
To make the event even more special for visitors, they would be visiting Graceland still adorned in Christmas decorations.
This decision was made as tribute to Elvis himself, who famously kept his Christmas decorations up until after his birthday had ended.
