Matthew Wolfenden, 41, is best known for his role as David Metcalfe on Emmerdale. He first began as an extra on the ITV soap, before auditioning to play Eli Dingle.

What is Matthew Wolfenden's 'race row'?

It was reported at the beginning of November that Matthew and co-star Isabel Hodgins – who play on-screen couple David Metcalfe and Victoria Sugden on Emmerdale – had a furious argument while filming alongside Aaron Anthony.

Though the reason for the argument was not known at the time, sources claimed that clash between the actors left people on set 'feeling uncomfortable.'

Two weeks after, reports came out that Emmerdale was facing a race probe over a claim that Matthew and Isabel reportedly mimicked a mixed race actress.

The pair have denied all the allegations and any wrongdoing.

They did not film any scenes for the show over two months, only returning to set recently.
