One Direction’s Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan have been celebrating nine years of ‘incredible memories’ after the band was formed in 2010.
This is so sad, Alexa play Midnight Memories.
With fans getting the band trending on Twitter for their anniversary, it was Louis who kicked things off by tweeting: ‘So many incredible memories. Days like today are days for reflection, so proud looking back! Thank you for ALWAYS having our backs! Big love to the lads! #9YearsOfOneDirection.’
Niall went on to add: ‘9 years!! Can’t thank you all enough for all the support over the years. Love you.’
Meanwhile, Liam told fans: ‘9 years… Amazing to look back at all the memories and even now you got us trending worldwide after 9 years. You truly are the best fans in the world #9YearsOfOneDirection.’
We’re emotional and it’s all their fault.
Band mates Harry Styles and Zayn Malik haven’t yet mentioned the nine year anniversary.
The heart-throb band was formed back in 2010 when they were fresh-faced teenagers on the X Factor by Simon Cowell, after each of the lads auditioned separately.
Despite churning out hit after hit including What Makes You Beautiful, Best Song Ever and Story Of My Life, Zayn decided to leave the band in 2015, with the rest of the boys breaking every heart around the world and going on hiatus in 2016.
Since the hiatus, the lads have spoken out about their time in the band, with Liam admitting that it often felt ‘toxic’ and he was drunk on stage some of the time.
‘When you’re doing hundreds and hundreds of [concerts] and it’s the same 22 songs at the same time every single day, even if you’re not happy, you’ve got to go out there,’ he said.
‘It’s almost like putting the Disney costume on before you step up on stage and underneath the Disney costume I was p***ed quite a lot of the time because there was no other way to get your head around what was going on.’
Speaking to Australian Men’s Health magazine, he added: ‘We had an absolute blast but there were certain parts of it where it just got a little bit toxic, it’s difficult when you have the level of fame that we had in the band.’
Nevertheless, fans were given a small ray of hope when Louis admitted that a 1D reunion is ‘inevitable’.
Be still our beating hearts.
‘I do think it will happen. I’d certainly have something to say about it if it didn’t. I think it’s inevitable,’ he said back in May.
‘When is the big question. That’s something none of us really know the answer to at the moment,’ he said.
Speaking to ITN, he added: ‘I feel like what’s most important is that when we do get back together, we’re all on the same page and we’ve all done what we want to do individually.’
