Ricky Gervais couldn't help but throw a cheeky quip in Piers Morgan's direction following interview with a Taliban spokesperson for his show on TalkTV.

Tuesday evening (May 10) saw the former Good Morning Britain presenter speak with Suhail Shaheen, an official representative for the Taliban.

Piers, 57, challenged the spokesperson on girls' rights to an education.

Ricky, who is known for being outspoken and has often clashed with Piers Morgan, was asked by fans for his thoughts.

A fan, who slammed the interview as 'disgusting' tweeted: "@rickygervais what do you think about @piersmorgan interviewing the Taliban tonight?"

The comedian, famous for shows like The Office, Extras and Afterlife quickly hit back: "I've lost all respect for them".

Several social media users seemed to think that the actor's tweet was a play on words as Piers cracked up at Gervais' response, suggesting it was a swipe at the term "them".

Fans seemed to agree with the scathing remark. with one penning: "Wow. Brilliant response sir. Perfection".

One more claimed he'd 'won the internet'.

Ricky did actually make an appearance on the first episode of Piers' show Piers Morgan: Uncensored.

Airing a pre-recorded message, Ricky could be heard saying: "The producers of Piers Morgan’s new show contacted me and asked me if I’d like to be a guest. I said, “Definitely not”.’

"They said would you mind doing a quick video wishing him luck?” I said, “Do I have to mean it?” They said “No”. I said “Good luck”.’

In the interview with Piers, the Taliban spokesperson claimed they'd never said education for girls was banned, instead saying it was "under consideration".

Piers wasn't buying the comments, biting back: "There’s nothing to talk about!’

"A girl should be entitled to go to school in Afghanistan the same way a boy goes to school."

Piers' first show earned him an audience just shy of 400,000 as he interviewed former US president Donald Trump.

However, the numbers plummeted for the interview with the Taliban, dropping to just 59k.
