Danh has been battling acute liver failure and other serious complications since that date. She was medically evacuated from Tokyo to San Antonio on April 21. An MRI revealed she had suffered a stroke, which caused brain damage, but doctors believe the damage could be reversible.

Currently, she remains in the intensive care unit. She is on continuous renal replacement therapy, dialysis, blood transfusions, and plasma exchanges. Despite being unable to talk or eat independently, she can express emotions such as discomfort, sadness, and happiness.

Further testing is needed to determine the cause of her health decline. Danh remains in the ICU with months of treatment ahead as she continues to recover from this health crisis.
