Emmerdale village is about to be rocked by a devastating tragedy as a fire at the factory leads to a tragic death. But as a much loved local dies, Amy Wyatt (Natalie Ann Jamieson) and her mum Kerry (Laura Norton) realise they are to blame after they tamper with electronic equipment while robbing the charity fund to pay off Amy’s debt.
Sparks from the CCTV wiring they have sabotaged triggers a fire and Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh) finds herself trapped when the door handle of the store room breaks and she is locked in. As the flames spread and get out of control, an explosion follows – and the cast have warned Metro.co.uk that the death will have a massive impact on the village moving forwards.
Laura shared: ‘No matter how tough-skinned anybody is, or what sort of trouble anybody’s been in before – it’s awful to think you might be responsible for something like that. And there’s all sorts of ways to go about dealing with it. There’s denial. There’s wanting to admit it and do the right thing. You’re up. You’re down. You don’t sleep. So yeah, I think the consequences are huge.
‘I know that there’s going to be a big fallout from this, and there’s a lot of different layers to it. It’s like a double-edged sword, because there’s two people going through the same thing, rather than just one character on their own.’
Natalie added: ‘They’re both going through it, and they’ve kind of got each other, but it’s so tense that they kind of doing have each other either. They’re both dealing with it differently, so, although they’ve got each other and can share with each other what’s going on, they both have very different ideas about how to go about doing with it – because Kerry and Amy can be so different. Whatever one thinks is the sensible thing to do, the other one would definitely think the opposite.’
But can they keep their secret hidden as the impact of what they have done truly hits home?
