BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt was absent from his usual perch on the red sofa this Thursday, as Jon Kay stepped up to the plate in his place.
Charlie usually presents the show on Thursdays and Fridays alongside Naga Munchetty – and though Naga was present for Thursday's programme, Charlie was not.
It comes amid an extended presenter change-up in recent weeks, with Dan Walker missing from this week's programming and replaced by Jon and business correspondent Ben Thompson alternatively.
Dan has addressed his mystery absence, however – explaining that he is actually taking a holiday after a hectic 2021 filled with BBC Breakfast duties, Strictly Come Dancing fame and the end of his stint on Football Focus.
Taking to social media, Dan shared a snap of Chatsworth Estate in Bakewell, where he had taken his family for a day out – and the landscape was bathed in winter sun.
Dan wrote: "Gorgeous afternoon at @chatsworthofficial with the family. Freezing but lovely!
"P.S. the people in the photo are not my family."
He later went on to explain the rumours circulating that he'd moved on to other projects, explaining on Instagram: "Just so you know… I haven’t left #BBCBreakfast, I haven’t taken some time out after Strictly… I'm just not in this week."
Charlie, however, has not yet addressed his Breakfast absence – as he doesn't have any active public social media pages.
There has been confusion among audiences by the Breakfast replacements, as two of the temporary presenters have already announced their intention to quit their current BBC jobs.
Both Ben Thompson and Katherine Downes said they would no longer be remaining in their current positions last year – before going on to appear on BBC Breakfast.
Katherine announced in November that she was leaving her BBC job to take a new path, explaining: "It’s given me the best of times and the best of friends.
"I hope they'll have me back every now and then, but if you’re looking for a commentator/presenter/reporter, I’ll be free from the end of November."
While Ben released a statement in December which read: "I’m hanging up my @BBCBreakfast hard hat and hi-vis in the New Year, so here’s a little thread of some of my ten years on the road, getting access to some of the most interesting and amazing businesses, and taking you with us.
"Starting out was terrifying but I quickly learned that you’re in safe hands with the brilliant @BBCBreakfast team. We moved from Television Centre in London to MediaCity in Salford in 2012."
Ben concluded: "Thank you to everyone running a business, big or small, for letting us in, letting us poke around and ask questions. I’m in awe of how resilient and determined you are. You just crack on."
BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One.
