Ben Shephard hits back at Tipping Point audience after they boo his cruel swipe

Ben Shephard was forced to defend himself during Tuesday’s episode of Tipping Point : Lucky Stars, when he branded one contestant’s performance as "rubbish".

Actress Lesley Joseph, known for her role on Birds Of A Feather, left the audience in stitches when she got one quiz question spectacularly wrong.

The episode was filmed several years ago, featuring Christopher Biggins and Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison, joined by a studio audience.

In the festive-themed episode, Ben was looking for the answer of "reindeer" – only for Lesley to guess "Bambi".

Starring in the Disney film of the same name, Bambi is famously a cartoon baby roe deer, a species native to Europe.

Cradling her head in her hands, Ben was flabbergasted by the guess, and remarked: "Might they be called reindeer?"

He then joked Lesley’s effort had been a disappointment, only for the audience to collectively make an "aww" sound, trying to defend the competing actress.

Turning to the crowd, Ben snapped: "Don’t ‘aww’ me. That was rubbish!"

The GMB presenter then instructed Lesley to sit the rest of the round out, leaving Christopher and Vicky to battle it out for a place in the semi-final.

Ben quipped: "The good news, in a way though, Lesley you now have no counters left to play, you are out."

Despite a rocky start to the show, Lesley managed to make it to the second round, with reality star Vicky getting the boot.

Christopher beat Lesley at the final hurdle, though the treasured actress was awarded a whopping £1,300 for a charity of her choice.

Lesley chose to donate the funds to Acting For Others, which is a charity collective that provides support – both financial and emotional – to theatre workers in need.

Tipping Point airs on weekdays at 4pm on ITV.
