Who does Buffy end up with?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer followed the story of Buffy Summers, the latest in a line of vampire slayers who has been tasked with defeating vampires, demons and other dark forces.

The TV series premiered on March 10, 1997, and sadly, came to an end on May 20, 2003.

During the show’s seven-season run, fans hoped for Buffy and Angel (David Boreanaz) to finally get together.

After Gellar left the series to star in the Buffy spin-off, Angel, Buffy set her sights on the vampire, Spike (James Marsters).

Sadly, at the end of the series, Buffy did not end up with Angel, or anyone at all.

Despite the show ending, a comic book series produced by Buffy creator Joss Whedon has continued.

In the final issue of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Reckoning, Buffy also did not end with Buffy romantically involved with anyone.

Instead, Buffy and Faith (Eliza Dushku) decided to live normal lives and joined the San Francisco Police Academy.

One couple that did end up together was Xander (Nicholas Brendon) and Dawn (Michelle Trachtenberg) and are raising their daughter Joyce.

At the end of both the comics and the TV series, Buffy ended up with friends with her two romantic interests, vampires Angel and Spike.

Speaking at Entertainment Weekly’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion event in 2017, Sarah Michelle Geller revealed who she believed Buffy would end up with.

She said: “People ask who I thought was Buffy’s ultimate and I get a lot of hate and a lot of death threats — seriously.

“There was something so beautiful to me about the Buffy and Angel story.

“I think that Spike understood a different part of who Buffy was and I think she needed to understand that and discover. But for me as Buffy, I think Angel.”

Show creator Josh Whedon also shared his thoughts on the Buffy, Spike and Angel love-triangle.

He said: “I’m split right down the middle because in terms of a long-term relationship:

“Spike’s kinda your guy because he actually went and got a soul because of her.

“But [Angel and Buffy]’s the grandest love story I will ever tell. You can’t argue with that.”

Despite the series ending back in 2003, that has not stopped fans from sharing their opinions online abut who Buffy should have ended up with.

One fan recently tweeted: “I JUST WANT BUFFY AND ANGEL TO BE A THING AGAIN.”

A second fan added: “Buffy would have chosen Angel in the end.”

American Politician Stacey Abrams even gave her opinion on the matter after a fan asked her on Twitter if she was a Spike or Angel fan.

She wrote: “To be fair, Angel was the right boyfriend for Buffy coming into her power.

“Spike was the right man to be with as she became the power.”
