Christina Aguilera: 1 of Her Hit Songs Was Co-Written by an 'American Idol' Judge

Many famous people have written Christina Aguilera songs, including an American Idol judge. During an interview, this judge discussed finding a “common denominator” with Aguilera that helped the two of them write a hit song together. Interestingly, the hit in question reflected Aguilera’s personal life.

Christina Aguilera made a hit 2000s album inspired by the 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s

During an interview with Billboard, Aguilera discussed the concept behind her album Back to Basics. “My vision for this record was to go back to old blues, jazz, and soul music, the music that I love and am inspired by wholeheartedly, [and] combine [that] with the visuals of some of the best era, I think, with the throwback to old Hollywood glam-that kind of retro, pin-up style of sexuality,” she said.

“You know, I thought the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s were such interesting elements to combine with the feel, look and sound, so it was just very exciting and I wanted the entire label to get on the same page with me and be in for this crazy ride that I wanted to go on with the record,” she added. Aguilera said she wanted Back to Basics to be retro. Notably, one of the most famous songs on the album, “Ain’t No Other Man,” has an old-school, jazzy beat.

Christina Aguilera and an ‘American Idol’ judge found a ‘common denominator’ while writing a song

Aguilera didn’t write the song alone. Kara DioGuardi was one of the song’s co-writers. DioGuardi is most known for serving as a judge on the eighth and ninth seasons of American Idol. She’s also co-written songs for Britney Spears, Gwen Stefani, Celine Dion, and many more artists.

During an interview with the Tampa Bay Times, DioGuardi discussed the origin of “Ain’t No Other Man.” “Christina and I found a common denominator,” DioGuardi said. “At the time, I wasn’t in a loving relationship, but she was. We wrote the melody and lyrics to the track (beats, samples). We evolved the song. If you can dream it, she can sing it.”

The way the world reacted to the song

“Ain’t No Other Man” became a hit. The track reached No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 20 weeks. The track’s parent album, Back to Basics, was a hit as well. Back to Basics peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and lasted on the chart for 46 weeks.

“Ain’t No Other Man” charted higher in the United Kingdom than it did in the United States. The Official Charts Company reports the song peaked at No. 2 in the U.K., staying on the chart for 24 weeks. Back to Basics topped the chart in the U.K. and remained on the chart for 42 weeks. “Ain’t No Other Man” was a big hit for Aguilera — and it might not be the same without DioGuardi.
