Coronation Streets Kimberly Hart-Simpson teases Nicky return: You just never know!

Coronation Street's Kimberly Hart-Simpson has teased a potential return for her character Nicky Wheatley on the ITV soap.

The actress, 35, first joined the cobbles in June 2020 as escort Nicky, who developed a complicated relationship with Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) after he lost his on-screen wife, Sinead Tinker (Katie McGlynn), to cancer.

Earlier this year, Nicky made an explosive return to the cobbles as she became embroiled in a love triangle with Daniel and his new girlfriend Daisy Midgeley.

However, after realising his feelings were set on Daisy, Nicky decided to move out of Daniel's flat and consequently made her exit from the cobbles.

And now Kimberly, who has teamed up with Direct Line's "backup you need" experience, has teased a potential return for Nicky.

Speaking exclusively to OK!, the actress, who is starring in St Helens Theatre Royal's Christmas pantomime Cinderella later this year, said: "As it stands at the minute, I'm out for a bit, but we don't know what the future holds.

"Obviously, there wasn't an actual leaving storyline for me so you just never know. I think I've just gone to put the kettle on somewhere. But yeah, hopefully that will come back around!"

Talking about if she'd like to return as Nicky, Kimberly said: "I'd relish the opportunity to go back there, I definitely feel like there's still more to go with Nicky and still more to find out about her.

"But we found out so much this year as well. And the reality is, there's so many other characters, it can't always just be about one person. There's so many characters in that show.

"And, it's nice sometimes to just dip into somebody's life and then dip back out again. And fingers crossed, we get to go back into her life again and see her but if that was it, I still had a ball and the best time of my life and very grateful for the show."

Kimberly went on to sweetly praised her former co-stars, revealing that she stays in touch with many of her colleagues.

She said: "I spoke to three of them yesterday. Yeah, it's very much like that. And, you know, when you become an adult, you get to choose who you want to be friends with.

"And there's a few people in there that for sure will be in my life for a long, long, long time through choice, because I like them.

"But in general, the feeling in the building is just electric. Like it's a museum in respect, isn't it? When you walk on set, you are part of history and it's something quite special.

"And the people don't take that for granted in the building. We all know what we're there to do. And we're all grateful to be there together."

Kimberly recently teamed up with Direct Line's "backup you need" experience, where friends competed for a chance to win a luxury holiday gift card worth £5,000.

The challenge saw friends answer questions about each other, with the possibility of being dunked at Millwall Docklands in London from a giant dunk machine.

Kimberly, who sported a wetsuit and opted to get dunked in the water earlier this week, admitted she's up for anything with "sort of danger".

Speaking prior to the dunk, the actress said: "Direct Line have been brilliant. It's really exciting what we've got planned today, it's gonna obviously be a bit scary, but I'm up for it, anything to do with sort of danger. I'm there for!

"Obviously, I'm going to be 20 foot in the sky, but I know that I'm going to enjoy it and I'm ready for it!"

Kimberly added that the opportunity is a "new life experience", adding: "You should definitely say yes to things like this because they don't come along too often."

Direct Line’s #backupyouneed experience opened on 30 August, highlighting the value of friendship and support when you need it most, with one lucky pair of mates winning a luxury holiday gift card worth £5,000.
