'Deadpool 3’ Confirmed To ‘Happen Soon’: Will It Include An Introduction To The MCU?

Ryan Reynolds is officially reprising his role as the Merc with a Mouth in Deadpool 3. The creators of the popular franchise just confirmed that another Deadpool film is in the works and fans will not have to wait long before the movie opens in theaters. Now that Disney has acquired the rights to the superhero, will Deadpool 3 introduce Reynolds’s character into the MCU?

‘Deadpool’ creators confirm new project

Taking to social media, Deadpoolcreator Rob Liefeld announced that they are working on the next film in thefranchise. Liefeld did not reveal any specifics about the project, but he didassure fans that it will happen sooner rather than later. Disney has not confirmeda timeline for the movie.

Deadpool 2 wasreleased back in 2018, so it is possible that filming could begin sometime thisyear. While we wait for more updates, it is good to know that Disney plans oncontinuing the Deadpool franchise and capitalizing on its previous success.

Liefeld first teased Deadpool3 a few months ago. According to Ladbible,Liefeld assured fans that the eponymous anti-hero will be back in action.Liefeld explained how Disney acquired the franchise from Fox with the intentionof releasing more films.

The network may or may not move forward with future X-Menfilms, but Deadpool is certainly on the table. The first two Deadpool movies were more valuable thanrecent X-Men offerings, making it a no brainer to continue the franchise.

Will Deadpool change?

One of the biggest questions about Deadpool 3 is whether or not Reynolds will reprise his role. Theactor has voiced uncertainty about the merger in the past, so it is a littleunclear if Disney wants to reboot the character altogether.

Fortunately, it sounds like Reynolds wants to reprise hisrole as Deadpool, which is definitely a good sign. Reynolds’s version of thecharacter is one reason why it was so popular and it makes sense that Disneywould keep him on board.

Deadpool directorDavid Leitch has also expressed interest in helming the third movie in thetrilogy. In a recent interview, Leitch said he would absolutely direct Deadpool 3 if Disney asked him. Leitchthen admitted that a lot of things are up in the air following the merger andhe has no idea what will happen in the coming months.

There are also developments in the MCU following the eventsin Avengers: Endgame to consider. Luckily, Leitch already has some story ideasfor a third Deadpool film and isready to go as soon as he gets the call.

Will Disney introduce Deadpool to the MCU?

So far, Deadpool has not been included in the MCU. Butconsidering the success of the franchise, it sounds like Marvel president KevinFeige is open to the idea of bringing Deadpool into the fold. Exactly what thiswill look like is anyone’s guess, but Feige recently told fans that they havezero plans to change the character. Between Leitch’s vision for the project andReynolds’s portrayal of the character, we are confident they will figure itout.

That said, Marvel is currently entering Phase 4 of its masterplan and Feige recently revealed that they do not plan on bringing X-Men intothe MCU for quite some time. Phase 4 is expected to span four to five years, which means we might not see anyone within the X-Men universe until Phase 5.

It is unclear if that includes Deadpool or not, but it issafe to say that we probably won’t see the character crossover for a while.More than likely, the studio will slowly introduce Deadpool into the MCU ratherthan all at once.

Marvel is expected to kick off Phase 4 with Black Widow, The Eternals, and Shang-Chi. The studio also has several sequels coming down the pipeline, including Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, and Doctor Strange 2.
