Leah (played by Lynn Collins) met up with Daryl (Norman Reedus) in a season ten bonus episode of The Walking Dead earlier this year. Now the zombie apocalypse drama is back after a few months’ hiatus, fans tuning in on AMC and Disney+ had to wrack their brains to remember where the pair left off.
A not-so surprising reveal in the latest episode of The Walking Dead has drawn mixed reactions from the show’s fanbase.
Even before the start of season 11, Leah’s return with Alexandria’s new enemies the Reapers was widely speculated after some obvious clues in the show’s marketing.
Now the series has finally brought her back in Sunday night’s fourth episode of the new season, ‘Rendition’.
In this entry, Daryl and Dog are captured by the Reapers and are finally granted an audience with the group’s leader Pope (Ritchie Coster).
Thankfully, Leah’s persistent feelings for Daryl spared his life and the grizzly Alexandrian had become a reluctant member of their pack by the end of the episode.
Some fans are unsure where exactly the Reaper storyline is headed, and the unsurprising reveal that Leah had joined their number didn’t exactly pique their interest.
Nevertheless, season 11 is still in its early stages with plenty of time for TWD to pull off a satisfying final lap next year.
Following the show’s latest underwhelming reveal, several viewers admitted they had trouble recalling Leah’s appearance in Daryl’s bonus episode at the end of season ten.
On Reddit, one fan commented: “I knew it was supposed to be Daryl’s girlfriend but I honestly didn’t recognize her face. I think the hair is what did it.”
Another fan replied in agreement: “She looked older somehow? Like 10 years older than I remembered.”
Daryl’s time in Leah’s cabin was indeed set some years in the past, during his time spent searching for Alexandria’s former leader Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).
Even so, viewers clearly found it surprising to see the one-off character return for such a major role in The Walking Dead’s final instalment.

Others were also confused if Leah is planning to stick around once Daryl manages to hatch a plan to escape the Reapers’ clutches.
“There’s no way Leah can or will be welcomed into the group after all this s**t,” another fan commented.
“I’m sorry to all you Leah/Daryl fans but this is over as soon as he schemes a way to escape.”
Although former Saviour Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) has been unofficially welcomed into the group, Leah will surely be a much harder sell after waterboarding her ‘ex’ this episode.
A final commenter asked fans: “Am I the only one who was completely confused throughout this entire thing?
“Like what a weird a**, convoluted episode. I don’t hate it or anything but I feel like I missed something even though I haven’t.”
Reactions to TWD have taken a downswing in recent weeks after a return to form last season, but hopefully the series can get back on track in time for its long awaited finale.
The Walking Dead season 11 continues Sundays on AMC.
