EastEnders heartbreak as locals gather for dying Lola Pearce

EastEnders: Lola tells Lexi her brain tumour has grown

Upcoming EastEnders scenes will see Lola Pearce’s (played by Danielle Harold) family rallying around her to make her as comfortable as possible.

However, while Jay Brown (Jamie Borthwick) does all he can to prepare for the end, Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) remains in denial.

Official BBC spoilers reveal Lola’s closest loved ones will struggle in upcoming scenes as she finally comes home to die surrounded by her family.

After living with an incurable brain tumour since the end of last year, it seems as though Lola may be near the end of her battle.

In scenes yet to air, Jay makes preparations for his wife to come home.

However, Ben is unconvinced that Lola should be leaving the hospital as he struggles to accept her prognosis.

Lola arrives home and is greeted by the residents of Walford as they rally around the family for support.

After being previously snubbed by Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick), Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) shares Reverend Mills’ number with a distressed Jay and encourages him to reach out to her for support for Lola.

The soap favourite soon becomes very low as her speech gets more slurred.

As the reality of her prognosis sets in, Lola refuses to see youngsters Janet Mitchell (Grace) and William Mitchell (Freddie Phillips).

Their mother, Honey Mitchell (Emma Barton), struggles to deal with her complicated emotions towards the situation and later confides her worries with Phil Mitchell (Steve McFadden).

Phil kindly comes up with a plan to let Janet revise for her GCSEs at Peggy’s, away from the upset at home.

After speaking with Phil and Bernadette Taylor (Clair Norris), Jay reaches out to Reverend Mills, who visits Lola to share her religious outlook on death.

The visit comforts Lola, but Ben soon causes further issues as he’s unable to accept reality.

The troubled resident lashes out at Honey and Billy as he accuses the family of accepting Lola’s prognosis too easily.

At the Arches, Jay confronts Ben and later, Phil speaks to his son about his mum and implores him to stop being selfish.

Later, the family gathers in Lola’s bedroom. A guilty Ben heads over to No.18 to apologise for his actions but then leaves a voicemail for Dr Washington requesting help to ensure Lola will still be alive in September.

Ben meets with the doctor to discuss a new treatment option available in America before heading back to attend the ladies’ day party that Jay, Denise Fox (Diane Parish) and Kim Fox (Tameka Empson) have arranged for Lola.

Ben makes a scene before leaving as Kathy Beale (Gillian Taylforth) and Callum Highway (Tony Clay) head home to try and force him to accept the reality of the situation.

Will he be able to come to terms with the tragedy and give Lola a proper farewell?

EastEnders continues on Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
