EastEnders viewers have been patiently waiting for Gray Atkins (played by Toby-Alexander Smith) to be brought to justice ever since he murdered his wife Chantelle Atkins (Jessica Plummer) in 2020. The evil lawyer went on to kill several other Walford residents, but has so far managed to get away with his crimes. On Christmas Day, BBC viewers saw Whitney Dean (Shona McGarty) team up with Kheerat Panesar (Jaz Deol) in an attempt to take the serial killer down and stop his wedding. Unfortunately, despite being warned about Gray, Chelsea Fox (Zaraah Abrahams) still went ahead with their nuptials. However, an EastEnders insider has revealed Gray’s killer storyline will soon come to a conclusion. Will he be arrested by police or get himself killed as he tries to escape?

After marrying Gray on Christmas Day, Chelsea finally learnt the truth about his horrifying past.

Whitney revealed messages posted on a domestic forum by Gray’s previous wife Chantelle.

Trying her best to help Chelsea, Whitney shared her suspicions that Gray had killed Chantelle last year.

While Chelsea was initially unsure about Whitney’s warnings, she finally realised she needed to get away from Gray.

However, one EastEnders insider has hinted the coming days won’t be easy for the newlywed.

The EastEnders spokesperson revealed: “Chelsea’s tumultuous Christmas is far from over, with baby Jordan in hospital and her new husband’s watchful eye more present than ever.

“Gray ups the ante with his manipulation, using Chelsea’s fragile state to his advantage.

“But, Whitney and Kheerat remain steadfast in their plan to catch Gray out and get justice for Chantelle once and for all.

“It’s only a matter of time before Gray gets his comeuppance,” the insider told Metro.

Fans will be glad to know the serial killer’s reign of terror is coming to an end.

However, will he face justice and be sent to prison or could he attempt to escape?

Back in August, EastEnders’ Senior Executive Producer, Kate Oates, teased what viewers can expect from the end of the Gray storyline.

She explained: “Gray’s story was always intended to be a longer arc after the death of Chantelle.

“But even though some of his actions have been extreme, they have always been grounded in the roots of Gray’s character.

“He’s a classic narcissist: everything he does is designed to fit a narrative that absolves him from guilt, and paints him out to be a good guy.

“I think in Gray, we have a character who tells himself that Chantelle died in a terrible accident; that Tina had to die so he could be there for his kids; and Kush had to go, because he and Whitney are ‘meant to be’.

“He’s the centre of his own universe, and nothing is his fault,” Kate told Metro at the time.

If Gray genuinely believes he’s not at fault, he will likely do anything he can to avoid prison.

However, the serial killer could soon find the police knocking at his door now that Whitney, Kheerat, and Chelsea have joined forces to catch him out.

Could Gray try to escape the police and go on the run?

Some viewers have been sharing their theories about Gray on Twitter, with some predicting he may be killed off before the new year.

“I’m going to need Gray and Aaron to die on New Year’s Eve. #EastEnders,” @notrowenaa said.

“If gray dies in the bomb attack and escapes facing justice, I’ll actually be done with this show #EastEnders,” @stfuvalerie commented.

Will villainous Gray be killed as he desperately attempts to escape arrest? Viewers will have to tune in to find out his fate.

EastEnders continues Thursday at 7:40pm on BBC One.
