Emmerdale fans point out plot hole in Dan Spencer’s recovery after life-changing accident

Emmerdale: Dan thanks Bob for the surprise dinner hamper

Emmerdale resident Dan Spencer (played by Liam Fox) had a freak allergic reaction earlier this year after fellow villager Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop) failed to disclose ingredients in the wrap he had been tucking into. He ended up suffering a nasty fall as a result which caused significant spinal damage, meaning he may never have been able to walk again. But fans of the ITV soap were baffled after Dan appeared to be in fine form, leading them to joke the village water must have “healing properties.”

Dan was up and about this evening and seemed to be getting into the festive spirit after finding a gift outside his home.

After his daughter Amelia (Daisy Campbell) spotted a turkey left on their doorstep, the pair concluded it must have been sent to the wrong address.

Not long after, they found a hamper packed full of Christmas treats waiting outside, with no clue where it had come from.

Later on, it became clear both were intended for Dan and Amelia after the mechanic went to tell Bob (Tony Audenshaw) what had happened.

Bob went on to admit he was behind the gesture after noting the tough year both he and his daughter had been dealt.

And whilst Dan wasn’t keen on accepting the gifts, Bob pleaded him to do so “for Amelia” and he couldn’t help but agree.

However, when viewers spied Dan walking normally, they couldn’t help but comment on a seemingly “miraculous recovery” from his accident.

Taking to Twitter, one commented: “God, never seen Dan up and about this much #Emmerdale.”

Another wrote: “Dan’s recovery must be on a par with Terry’s miraculous recovery from his stroke a few years ago – must be something in the #Emmerdale water – healing properties.”

A third confused viewer asked: “What happened to Dan’s crutches/wheelchair? #Emmerdale.”

“Dan will be running a marathon next week to raise money for the people that ‘cured’ him,” joked another fan.

A fifth said: “Sorry but Dan’s miraculous recovery is ridiculous. What a shambles of a storyline #Emmerdale.”

Dan suffered the seemingly life-changing injury which left him needing extra care as well as a wheelchair.

It came after his allergic reaction to the food from the cafe had seen him struggle to breathe as he experienced an anaphylactic shock.

Whilst trying to work out what was happening, he tripped and fell, meaning he had to be rushed to the hospital.

It seemed as though the damage – in part due to Brenda’s actions – would leave him more outwardly affected in the long-term.

Dan struggled earlier this year to adjust to the new situation after returning home and having to learn to walk again.

So it did come as a surprise for some fans of the soap to see him getting about so easily.

Elsewhere tonight, Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy) expressed her guilt to Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) after opting to have an abortion.

Laurel and partner Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) discovered the baby they were expecting together would have Down’s Syndrome.

This led the pair to make the difficult decision to terminate the pregnancy but will Rhona manage to get through to her friend as she grieves for her loss?

Emmerdale airs Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7pm and Thursdays at 7pm and 8pm on ITV.
