Emmerdale's Lucas sees his birthday party turn sour in upcoming scenes, when social services come to take him away.
Dawn Taylor (Olivia Bromley) is determined to give her son a special birthday celebration, plotting a family gathering on Lucas' behalf.
The former heroin addict has turned her life around in the past year, giving her son a safe and secure home – only for Harriet Finch to jeopardise everything.
In next week's trip to the dales, Harriet (Katherine Dow Blyton) is left distracted by the flirtation between Will Taylor and Kim Tate (Claire King), realising there is a romance brewing between them.
Harriet offers to pick up Lucas from school, but doesn't return home for several long hours, leaving Dawn fretting.
Dawn eventually calls the police, fearing Lucas – and Harriet – have run into trouble on their way home from the schoolyard.
Later, Harriet returns to the house, but is visibly drunk, having drowned her sorrows in the bottom of a bottle.
Harriet confronts Dawn about her father's relationship with Kim, revealing they are sleeping together.
The revelation only leaves Dawn feeling sorry for Harriet, realising she has royally messed things up with her dad.
Unfortunately, there's more bad news to come, as a social worker calls around to reveal Harriet had kept a shameful secret from the family.
When picking the youngster up from school, Harriet lost Lucas for several hours, sparking concern for the social services.
Caseworker Eloise says she will be investigating whether Dawn is fit to care for Lucas, leaving the stricken mum panicking.
Things go from bad to worse when the police call to the house, taking Lucas away from his mum.
Will Dawn be able to prove she can care for her son, or has she lost Lucas forever?
Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7pm on ITV, with a second helping on Thursdays at 8pm.
