Emmerdales Leyla star refused to film in underwear after racy script demand

Emmerdale’s Leyla Harding star Roxy Shahidi revealed she has previously refused ITV bosses’ requests to film scenes in her underwear.

During Thursday’s visit (March 16) to the Channel 4 studios, the brunette beauty made an appearance on Steph’s Packed Lunch where she discussed her character’s future on the long-running soap.

In recent episodes, fans have watched the ambitious businesswoman fight for her life after she was held captive by dangerous drug dealer Callum.

Now, the actress has revealed some of her most awkward moments on the Yorkshire set across her 10-year reign on the show.

She explained: “Everyone’s got their own body issues, haven’t they? So, they’re (the producers) fantastic like that.

“And equally, if there’s stuff in the script that you’re not comfortable with, whether that’s emotional, or whether that’s on a physical level, whatever it is, you can always raise that.”

It was at this point that she shared the awkward moment the star was asked to perform a cheeky strip tease for her onscreen husband Dr Peter Barton.

The actor went on: “For example, I was written in an underwear scene where I shimmied into a doctor’s surgery and dropped my coat and bra and knickers.

“And so, I ended up in a nice knee length dress from Reiss, but I did a really good shimmy, a little dance.

“I think it was funnier because for me personally, I felt comfortable delivering that scene, and also people don’t want to see my bra and knockers when they’re having their tea.”

The soap star later went on to discuss her character’s current predicament as Emmerdale fans eagerly wait to find out her fate after being kidnapped.

And she only left fans more intrigues after she shared her future on the soap and revealed her dream way to leave the programme.

Roxy confessed: “100% [in a] taxi! If you get in a taxi, you can always come back in a taxi. You go in a taxi, you come back in a taxi. So, you want the taxi really because it leaves that door fluid.

“You don’t want to die; it’d be too sad to die. You’ve known that character for years and years and years and you’ve invested so much. I couldn’t do it, I'd weep.”

Steph’s Packed Lunch airs on weekdays on Channel 4 at 12.30pm.
