Good Morning Britain shock as Miriam Margolyes calls Boris Johnson 'a clown' and says Trump supporters 'need a smack'

GOOD Morning Britain viewers were shocked as Miriam Margolyes called Boris Johnson a "clown" and says Trump supporters "need a smack".

The actress, 79, ranted against Brexit, Trump and the Prime Minister while promoting her new role in Wallace & Gromit: The Big Fix Up.

Speaking about getting a vaccine with Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard from her Tuscany home, Miriam said she would only return to the UK "when it's safe".

The Harry Potter actress said: "Of course one must have a vaccine. Those anti-vaxxers are nuts. They need their heads seen to. It's ridiculous. I'm hoping I get a vaccine as soon as possible. I'm 79 so I'm not quite 80 yet – I'll be 80 in May. I may be able to have it in Italy before I come [back to the UK]."

Miriam then said she holds Boris Johnson to account for the "mess" of the pandemic.

She continues: "But I'm not going to England until it's safe to go.

"I mean you've got that clown in charge there that I didn't vote for and I'm holding him responsible for a lot of this mess."

She also laid into Donald Trump after she was questioned about the storming of the Capitol Building by his supporters last week.

Miriam said: "Like everybody else I'm astonished and disgusted. I know it's morning television and I know I have to be careful about what I say about that man.

"Let's say that it ends with 'hole' and starts with 'a'.

"But he is a dangerous man. He is dangerous. I think he's a fascist. And I think it's obvious from the beginning that he was going to be like that.

"I think it looks from the beginning there was planning – a conspiracy – to invade the capital. I just long to see the back of him.

"And I'm worried about America. It's a sweet country. There's a lot of silly people in it and they need to be smacked."

Miriam also slammed Brexit and joked "people didn't know what they voted for" because she can't stay in Italy for more than 90 days.

Speaking about staying in her second home, the actress said: "It's wonderful over here. The people are sensible and my house is beautiful as you see. It is occasionally available to rent by the way."

Susanna asked: "No one can go anywhere at the moment. How did you escape?"

Miriam said: "Well I came out in August and I would stay here forever if I could.

"But because of that Brexit thing, I have to leave at the end of March. Because you're only allowed to stay for 90 days in a 180.

"Which people didn't realise when they voted for Brexit, that they were putting me out of my house. But anyway, I'm not the most important one, maybe. No, Trump is the most important one. That's what he thinks anyway."

Viewers took to Twitter to slam the actress with the comments.

One person said: "gmb yes, #miriammargoleys we did know what we were voting for #brexit . Most were voting for how it affects them IN THIS COUNTRY not how it affects people who can afford second or even third homes in Europe."

A second added: "Oh look! It's that woman who wanted Boris Johnson to die when he had COVID! #GMB"

A third remarked: "Did they get Miriam gargoyle on to talk about Wallace and Gromit or give political opinion? #GMB"

Channel 4 was hit by 100s of complaints in May after Miriam said “wanted Boris Johnson to die” from the coronavirus.
