Following a successful first outing and an epic appearance in Avengers: Endgame, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel will likely become a centerpiece in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for years to come. Marvel is currently getting ready to launch Phase 4 and Captain Marvel is set to appear in a slew of future films for the studio. But how many more Marvel movies will feature Larson’s character?
Inside Brie Larson’s Marvel contract
Marvel has been tight-lipped on future films within the MCU, but Larson’s contract has her appearing in at least five additional movies before it expires. It is unclear how many of those films will be solo outings for her character, but considering the success of the first Captain Marvel movie, we should get at least two or three more standalone projects. Larson has already enjoyed one cameo in the MCU and she will likely play a part in future Avengers movies as well.
According to Cleveland,Captain Marvel was a huge success for Marvel Studios, making over $1 billion inworldwide ticket sales. The film also proved that a female superhero could leada movie and gain widespread support.
While we still do not know what Marvel’s president, Kevin Feige, has planned for Captain Marvel’s storyline, but she is expected to be a majorplayer in the MCU moving forward, along with Spider-Man (Tom Holland), ofcourse.
Inside Captain Marvel’s ‘Endgame’ cameo
Larson’s Captain Marvel played an important role in the InfinityWar saga. In Avengers: Endgame, sherescued Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) from certain death in outer space andhelped the Avengers take down Thanos. Prior to the release of Endgame, directors Joe and Anthony Russotook to social media and teased a new look for Carol Danvers.
In some behind-the-scenes photos, the Russo brothers revealedthat Captain Marvel’s suit in Endgamewas generated by CGI and was not the costume she wore in Captain Marvel. We have no idea if the new suit is something thatCaptain Marvel will be rocking in future films, but it is interesting to seeher look evolve across films.
Larson has not released any details about her upcoming work withMarvel and the Captain Marvel franchise. The studio’s next film, Spider-Man: Far From Home, is officiallyout in theaters and should shed some light on where the franchise is headed. Thereis even a chance that the movie reveals the next big bad in the MCU.
Is Carol Danvers LGBTQ?
While we wait for more news to drop, there are some fans whobelieve Marvel might use Captain Marvel to represent the LGBTQ community. Thereis a fan theory floating around that argues Carol Danvers is gay, and therecould be some truth to the idea.
Marvel admittedly puts romance storylines on the back burner infavor of action and comedy, but Carol’s relationship with her best friend hasfans convinced that she might be gay. Although Marvel has not said anythingabout Carol’s sexual orientation, there is some evidence to back up the theory.
In Captain Marvel, we learned that Carol’s best friend is a woman named Monica Rambeau (Lashana Lynch). The two flew planes together during their time in the Air Force and worked on the same top-secret project with Dr. Wendy Lawson (Annette Bening).
Although the movie makes it look like their friendship is purely platonic, fans believe otherwise. In fact, Larson teased a potential romance between Carol and Monica in a recent interview, calling their friendship one of the biggest love stories in the film. Larson has not confirmed the LGBTQ rumors, but that has not stopped fans from speculating.
Captain Marvel would hardly be the first gay superhero in thehistory of film. So far, there have been 12 heroes (and villains) associatedwith the LGBTQ community, though not all of them are explicitly gay. Thisincludes the likes of Deadpool, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Batwoman, Iceman, and Negazonic Teenage Warhead.
With a sequel to CaptainMarvel almost certainly in the making, perhaps we will get some moreinformation in regard to Carol’s romantic life.
