Shane Richie became one of the first I’m A Celebrity campmates voted by the public to take on a bushtucker trial – and knew exactly who to blame.
Coronation Street fans.
The 56-year-old star, best known as Alfie Moon on the BBC soap, thinks that his show’s biggest rivals may have had something to do with his nomination.
Arriving at the Viper Vault alongside his Radio One DJ campmate Jordan North, the pair were told they had to try and win meals for camp by dealing with the horror within.
When Ant and Dec asked why he thought he was voted in, Shane joked: ‘I’ve got a big family in Ireland, they’ll have emptied the account.
‘And I think Coronation Street fans.’
Well Corrie fans… was he right?
Well, if you did, you got your money’s worth – with Shane and Jordan absolutely horrified to discover what laid in store for them.
Both Shane and Jordan were locked inside vaults that were built into the castle floor, and inside each vault were five locked safes requiring codes to get to the star inside.
With 10 minutes to find the 10 stars, only the stars in their bag at the end of the Trial would count – and then of course, there was the added catch that they wouldn’t be alone in the vaults.
A terrified Jordan, who threw up out of nerves on the first day before an abseil, was hesitant to take the challenge on, and nearly backed out.
However, he decided to go ahead after a pep talk from Shane and the realisation that it was either both of them, or neither of them could do it.
The terror only got worse once snakes were added into the claustrophobic trap they were caught in, but thankfully they were able to pull through.
They walked away with an impressive nine out of 10 stars overall.
I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! continues nightly at 9pm on ITV.
