On Wednesday’s instalment of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! viewers saw Boy George open up about his 15-month prison sentence. The pop icon was in jail for falsely imprisoning a male escort which Scarlette Douglas decided to question him over. Although the 80s star wasn’t impressed with her directness.

Over the past few days, viewers have seen the line-up of stars get to know each other as they share stories about their lives outside the jungle.

Although things took a sour turn on Wednesday evening as A Place in the Sun’s Scarlette Douglas decided to ask Boy George about his court case.

In 2009, the 80s icon spent time behind bars for assault and false imprisonment after he handcuffed a model to a wall.

Bringing up the topic in camp, Scarlette said: “What happened with you BG and some guy in handcuffs and a radiator?”

After he told her it wasn’t true, he replied: “Handcuffs is true but the radiator bit wasn’t true, but thanks for bringing it up.”

Apologising, the Channel 4 star told him she wouldn’t be surprised if it was a fake story, to which he replied that when people keep bringing up things they then become folklore.

However, it seemed that her question upset Boy George as he shared his feelings on her directness in the Bush Telegraph.

He said: “Scarlette blatantly talked about my court case. I thought it was inappropriate what she did, actually.

“I thought she shouldn’t have said what she said to me. And I thought I handled it really well as it’s a big sore point for me when people say things like that.”

While back in camp, he added that if the story were true then he wouldn’t be working now.

As Scarlette told him that she wasn’t aware of the whole story and had only heard parts about handcuffs and a radiator, Boy George then explained his side to her.

He said: “The best way to explain my thing, Scarlette, if I beat someone up there would be photographs.

“There were none, because it didn’t happen. So when you beat someone up, the first thing the police do is take a photograph and they show them in court.

“There was no photos because I didn’t do that. But I did do one thing. I did handcuff him, yeah. Because I’d handcuffed the guy I’d already assaulted him.

“So, when I said ‘I did it’, I thought, I’ll tell the truth they’ll let me go home. I went to prison for four months. I was on tag for four months as well.”

Boy George revealed that while he was in prison the people were amazing and they loved him.

Wanting to know what his experience was like, he added that it was very boring with clothes similar to what they’re wearing now.

He confessed they thought he’d be a nightmare in prison but that he wasn’t and they thanked him when he left.

Boy George continued: “Sometimes I think, do I want to explain it? I know the truth. I also know, if I’d done what I was accused of doing, I don’t think I’d be working.

“I don’t think I’d ever come back from it. That was a slightly tabloid-exaggerated scene.”

I’m A Celebrity continues weekdays on ITV from 9pm.
