Tom Fletcher and dance partner Amy Dowden joined Rylan Clark on the It Takes Two sofa on Friday night’s instalment of the BBC Two show. The McFly frontman revealed the “emotional” reason why he wants to impress the judges for Musicals Week. He admitted he’s even been brought to tears “a few times this week” about Saturday’s live performance.

Tom, 36, and Amy, 31, will be dancing to On My Own from Les Misérables on Saturday night.

Rylan, 33, said: “Musicals Week was the one you said you wanted to get to, why did it mean so much to you?”

Tom passionately replied: “Musical theatre is where I started and I went to theatre school from the age of nine and it’s such a huge part of my life.

“And when I first met Amy we were talking about what I wanted from Strictly and I just said, ‘Musicals Week, that is the week I’m aiming for’.”

Tom explained he also wanted to make it through to Musicals Week for his family as his sister Carrie is an actress in the West End.

Carrie has played Éponine in Les Misérables where she has sung the powerful ballad On My Own to live audiences.

Tom added: “It means so much to all of us and actually this song [On My Own], and Les Misérables, was [my sister’s] first-ever role in the West End.

“So that’s why we are dancing it and it’s so emotional and it’s been an emotional week.”

The singer continued: “I’ve cried a few times this week, it’s just a new experience for me as I am normally just worried about learning the steps.

“But this week I feel a personal connection to the song and I’ve not really had that before.”
“So Musicals Week means a lot to me,” Tom added.

A sympathetic Rylan told Tom the viewers will understand how important Musicals Week is to him when they watch him dance.

“I really can’t wait to see you both do this, I really can’t,” Rylan added.

Tom also opened up about the pressure of knowing other Strictly winners including McFly bandmate Harry Judd who took home the Glitterball Trophy in 2011.

“I know far too many people who have won Strictly,” Tom joked.

“And Harry is coming down this weekend to watch too.”
