James Argent reveals truth about his relationship with Lydia Bright and explains THAT Gemma Collins plea

JAMES Argent has poured cold water over fans' hopes he would rekindle his romance with first love Lydia Bright.

The Towie favourite lifted the lid on their special friendship and said he would hate to stand in the way of Lydia finding love again.

Their turbulent romance ensured they were always at the forefront of Towie storylines when they found fame on the ITVbe show.

And Arg, who split from the beauty in 2016 after she allegedly caught him taking cocaine, said she is still a huge part of his life.

"I want to be able to see Lydia when I’m not having a good day as she’s somebody I turn to for help, but we can’t do that at the minute because we get pictured and everyone says, 'they’re back together'," he explained.

"She’s got great guys out there who might want to date her and won’t bother asking her because they think that she’s seeing me.

"And I have girls who think, 'hang on, aren’t you with Lydia' so they don’t bother with me either.

"It’s frustrating.”

His other Towie romance with co-star Gemma Collins eventually hit the rocks during the first lockdown when the pair split for good.

Gemma, 40, is now engaged to Rami Hawash who she dated before Arg.

Last week Arg was pictured laughing at the Darts World Championship while holding up a sign that said "GC, call off the engagement!!!"

Arg told The Mirror: "As everyone knows, you go to the Darts and you write something silly on the boards.

"It was just lads’ banter. I know for a fact Gemma wasn’t offended – she saw the funny side. I also got to know Rami well in the early days of filming TOWIE so I’m really pleased for her."

In her recent Times interview, Gemma claimed to have saved recovering addict Arg's life three times andsaid she received no thanks.

Meanwhile, he recently told The Sun how he feared he was eating himself to death as his weight ballooned to 27stone following his drugs battle.

Now at a more healthy 15 stone 7lb, Arg confessed to bingeing on fast food, fizzy drinks and snacks before he turned to surgery.

He said: "Bingeing made me tired and lethargic so I’d make plans every day to meet friends, do a job or achieve something.

“But after I binged, I was so exhausted I’d end up just staying in bed and not leaving the house. Then one afternoon my mum found me in bed and started crying.

“She said, ‘I don’t recognise my son any more.’ That was a big wake-up call.

“Also, I reached the heaviest I’ve ever been in the height of the pandemic and doctors said I was dicing with death because I’ve got bad asthma and was morbidly obese, which was the worst possible combination if I was to catch Covid."

“I could have been a goner, so I just knew I had to do something.”
