Jane McDonald, 57, joined Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning to talk about her new album and upcoming series Jane and Friends. As she spoke about what’s next for her career, Jane admitted she was “devastated” she had to put plans to launch her own cruise on hold due to the pandemic. She explained she didn’t know what to say to those working in the industry and hoped they’d be able to get back out on the sea soon.
Jane told Phillip and Holly: “Covid has stopped so much, devastated, absolutely devastated.
“The cruise industry has completely come to a grinding halt.
“It’s not just the cruising industry, it’s all the people who work in it; hospitality, chefs, travel agents.
“It’s just been awful and not just the cruising industry, my theatre work as well, all of the musicians, the people who drive the tour buses, the crew, the stage crew, light crew.
“It’s awful and I don’t know what to say to everybody.”
Phillip remarked it must be heartbreaking seeing all of the cruise ships moored up around the south coast waiting to be used again.
“You know what, it’s made me not take anything for granted, I’ve got great respect for the industry I’m in,” Jane explained.
“When we come back, it will be the most special time for all of us. I will never take it for granted.
“When I come back and am stood on that stage again, it will be really emotional.”
But as Jane is forced to wait to get back on a cruise, viewers can catch her on Jane and Friends from next week.
“Oh my goodness, I can’t wait for people to see this,” the presenter exclaimed.
“We filmed it last year, it’s lively, it’s very lively. We’ve done the Greatest Showman and the Eighties.

It comes after Jane explained she feared husband Eddie Rothe wouldn’t like her during lockdown.
Speaking on The One Show, Jane shared: “Well for four and a half years, I haven’t been home.
“It’s weird because when I got home and it was all locked down, I thought ‘What if he (Eddie) don’t like me?’
“It was a bit of a shock. I thought, this could be it.”
However, Jane said that after going through lockdown together, they are stronger than ever.
This Morning airs weekdays on ITV at 10am.
