On Thursday’s Good Morning Britain, ITV hosts Ben Shephard and Kate Garraway were back to present the latest news headlines. The duo spoke with one guest via video link about Tory MP Owen Paterson, who has avoided a suspension from the House of Commons. However, midway through the interview, Kate left viewers angry after she stopped the debate to show the new John Lewis Christmas advert.
Taking to social media to air their fury, user @completechimp said: “Well that was #gmb deciding that they’d had enough of discussing serious corruption in our political system and they needed to suddenly deviate to show 10 seconds of the John Lewis Christmas ad. #ToryCorruption ?? Look over there everyone it’s a Christmas advert.”
Andy raged: “@GMB WTF???? ARE YOU SERIOUS? You abruptly halted a serious interview regarding #Tory to show a clip of an advert? You have sunk to a new low! #GMB @benshephard I thought you were a good guy? Absolute disgrace. #ToryCorruption #JohnsonOut.” (sic)
Sharing a clip of the moment on Twitter, Milly penned: “This was a disgrace!”
“STFU about this John Lewis advert & carry on about the corrupt tory discussion that you interrupted to show it,” @Sile1888 tweeted.
